SBI PO English section- pattern and syllabus
Let us first understand the pattern of examination for prelim and mains examinations in reference to the English section.
Prelim English section pattern for SBI PO
- English language for 30 marks
- Reasoning for 35 marks
- Quantitative aptitude for 35 marks
Total test will be for 100 marks.
SBI PO Mains pattern with reference to English language.
There will be 5 section for 200 marks and there will be descriptive English test for 50 marks/ thus total test will be for 250 marks.
- Objective test for 200 marks consisting of English (40 marks), Quantitative aptitude (50 marks), Reasoning test for 50 marks, General awareness for 40 marks and computer knowledge for 20 marks
- Descriptive test- 50 marks
Syllabus of English for Prelim and mains
The topics list: This part covers following topics:-
Antonyms, Synonyms, Idioms and Phrases ,One word Substitution ,Homonyms ,Commonly misspelled words, Cloze Test
Spotting Errors, Direct and Indirect speech, Active/ Passive voice
Sentence rearrangementAnswering question based on Unseen Passages, Theme Detection, Deriving Conclusion.
Tips to prepare for English section
- Improve your vocabulary
This is very important as without a good vocabulary you wont be able to correctly identify the meaning of the passages and sentences.
- Practice on the pattern
Understand the pattern and syllabus from above and after that learn the grammar rules especially from those part of speech from where the questions are generally asked.
