It can be regarded as a large forest where each animal is given the government protection and where poachers are not allowed. Sometimes the tribal people from nearby areas are allowed to collect forest products but there is a restriction in that too. In India over the time a lot of animals and birds are extinct due to illegal poaching. For example the one horned rhinoceros which is generally found in the forest of Assam is on the threshold of extinction. The reason being the price of its horns is very high in the international market and poachers kill them to earn high profits. Their horns are used to make several ornaments and they do not easily decay with time.

National parks and sanctuaries in India:

To give the protection to such animals and birds and to preserve the ecological balances in that area government has taken some steps. It has made illegal the poaching of these endangered species to give them freedom to live in those areas. It also keep an watch over the population of these endangered species and their statics are recorded and studied from time to time and if needed the necessary steps are taken to increase the population of such species. There are several species which are about to extinct in India. They include flamingo, one horned rhino, horn bill, pelican, Himalayan eagle and some species of the deer. Also the Indian tigers were about to extinct which are out national animal but government took right steps on time and now there population are increasing. They are found in Corbett national park and other places in the country.
