It works on SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) which is a guideline for the mails to be delivered at the other end. For MS Outlook to function the internet must be available and the outlook must be configured to send and receive message right at your desktop without opening the email system of the Mail Server. It is useful program as you do not have to bother about the mails in the business environment and you will be automatically notified as soon as a mail arrives to your email and without the need to open the email sever and your account on that email server you can read the message and even reply the message / mail through the desktop only.
