This is one of the favorite questions these days when most of the governors of the India states have been sacked by the Modi government. Especially with the Kamla Beniwal who was the former governor of the Gujarat and when Modi came in power she was transferred to the Mizoram which the last state of the north east states. After this she was suddenly sacked and she had to resign her post of governor.
A lot of other governors have also done the same thing and after this incident this has become the question of the hour in IBPS and SBI examinations. It is also important because such questions are often asked in the government exams and candidates are expected to have the knowledge about the current governor of the states.
Each state has one governor generally which has its specific functions. Sometimes one governor is made common for two or more states and in that case the same governor dispenses his/ her services to different states.
Functions of Governors for SSC UPSC And Bank Examinations:
Governor is the head of the state as the president is head of the country. The functions of the governor are same as that of the President. President acts in center and governor act in State. Governor appoints the chief ministers and then the chief minister appoints his / her cabinet of ministers.
He also makes some important appointments of the states like the judges and the chief justice of the high court are appointed by him. He sees that the chief minister is working as per the constitution or not and If he finds that the state is not working properly he can recommend the President rule in that state.
Also he can dissolve the whole State constituency and ask the parties for a fresh election. He is the nominal head of the state but all the power is really exercised by the chief minister. The process of impeachment of governor is very difficult and only in the rare cases the governor can be removed from its post. The post of governor is not guided by the Prime minister but it is directly under the president of India. President elects the Governors in the state and if he wishes he can asks for the resignation of the governors under the rare cases.
