English language pattern and syllabus
One of the major things that candidates will need to understand the syllabus and pattern of exam which have been given below.. Candidates will need to understand it. Also there is a minute difference in syllabus of English section in some of the examination. For example, the pattern of the exam in RBI clerk is same as that of PO and clerk but the pattern of exam in RBI grade B is slightly different. Though the pattern of exam is similar but the syllabus of the RBI is different than other examinations. Candidates should therefore understand both the pattern of exam and syllabus which is more important. The pattern of exam is given as under. It is also to be noted that there will be 40 questions in the examination and all will be multiple choice questions only. There will be negative marking in the exam and candidates will have to be careful while attempting the English section. Some of the type of questions which are always asked in the exam are as under:

Play safe with English section:
One of the major thing candidates will need to know that they should not touch the questions in English section of they are not sure. They have to obtain fairly good number of questions in the exam and if they are not sure they can leave that question. If they are good at other sections then they can only solve limited number of questions in English language to qualify the examination. Below are some of the details which they will need to know. Candidates will have to pass the exam with good marks. There will be 5 sections in the exam and all the sections are compulsory. Candidates will need to pass the English section in all the examination and so they must prepare well for it. They can allocate separate time for this section during preparation phase and dedicate time for this section daily.
Read news paper/ magazine
One of the basic and most important thing that candidates will need to know that in order to improve their English language they should read Magazine and News paper in English. They can read any news paper like The Hindu or Indian express and they should focus on the editorial page. There are new words which they can focus and they can understand the details. They can practice the new words in sentences to retain the meaning of these sentences in long term. Candidates should read news paper for at least 1 hour daily to improve their English language.
Tackle the paper
Candidates should attempt that section first which in which they are good. They can allocate at least 30 minutes for English section f they are not good enough in English section and accordingly they have to manage the time for other sections. Candidates will have to pass the English section with separate cutoff marks which is very important. Candidates can solve the unseen passage/ Reading comprehension which is designed to test the ability of candidates to understand the English language. They have to read the RC and at the same tie try to understand the passage and grasp the main theme which is in the passage. After this they can understand the questions and they can answer them frequently while solving them. It can help candidates to score at least 10 marks easily.
After this candidates can move to para jumbled up sentences. They are easy to understand and generally in the clerk exam candidates can easily know which one is the first sentence. After identifying first sentence, candidates can find out the follow on sentences starting from the first one. Candidates can learn from their mistakes which they have done in the previous papers of English and accordingly they can improve it. Practice is very important and candidates should start preparing for this section.
