All you need to know about Smart Cities.Smart cities are the concept which was first coined by IBM on Center of market fluctuations. Currently India has decided to make 98 cities as smart cities and question related to it has been asked in the examination. As the work is yet to be started questions are still asked form this section is most of the examination. Candidates who have been preparing for the examination/ banking sector need to know the details of the Smart cities and based on this they have to prepare well for the examination. Smart cities are the concept which is designed to explain the cities which are strong in infrastructure and lacs market volatility. Currently the government of India has shortlisted 98 cities from among the states in India to make them start city in the next 5 years.

To accomplish the task, government has set aside Rs 48000 crore and also the government has set aside an additional of Rs 500 crore for the development projects. Candidates should know the definition of smart city. It has been said that there is no proper definition of the smart city and it can mean different for the different country and we cannot compare the smart city of one country with the other. The rough definition of a smart city is a city which has information technology is the principal infrastructure and the basis for providing essential services to residents. They intend to benefit everybody, including citizens, businesses, the government and the environment.

It is strange to know that there the government has not included any city from bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. The schemes the strategy of BJP only as it must have cities from Bihar and UP which are backward and have more number of population as compared to the other states. The scheme seems a stunt for the voting purpose. Government has not included any city form UP Bihar and WB as it has no government in these states.

Some of the features which smart cities are likely to include are:

  • Adequate water supply
  • Assured electricity supply
  • Sanitation, including solid waste management
  • Efficient urban mobility and public transport
  • Affordable housing, especially for the poor
  • Robust IT connectivity and digitalization
  • Good governance, especially e-Governance and citizen participation
  • Sustainable environment
  • Safety and security of citizens, particularly women, children and the elderly
  • Health and education

The smart city will be implemented in phases and currently in the first phase there are 20 cities which has been chosen for the smart city implementation. These are

  4. Surat, Gujarat
  5. Kochi, Kerala
  6. Ahmedabad, Gujarat
  7. Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh

  9. Solapur, Maharashtra
  10. Davangere, Karnataka
  11. Indore, Madhya Pradesh
  12. New Delhi Municipal Corporation
  13. Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
  14. Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh
  15. Belagavi, Karnataka
  16. Udaipur, Rajasthan
  17. Guwahati, Assam
  18. Chennai, Tamil Nadu
  19. Ludhiana, Punjab
  20. Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
